Garmin Chair Professorships and Garmin Scholar Fellowships

In support of NTU’s talent retention and recruitment effort, Garmin Co-Founder Dr. Min H. Kao, who is also an NTU Distinguished Alumni and US National Academy of Engineering Academician, pledged US$20 million in 2024 through his family endowment Kao Family Foundation to establish “Garmin Chair and Garmin Scholar Award Fund” and “Garmin Faculty Dormitory Construction and Maintenance Fund.” The revenue of these funds will help to recruit top global talents to serve at the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and the College of Engineering of NTU while rewarding existing faculty who excel in their research and teaching endeavors.

Garmin Chair Professorships and Garmin Scholar Fellowships are implemented in a 3-year cycle, over which 22 recipients are selected. The term of each professorship and fellowship is three years and subject to one re-appointment.
