● Introduction
This lecture aims to enhance learners' understanding of the ethical principles and practical skills involved in academic English writing, helping them develop rigorous writing practices and a strong sense of academic integrity. The lecture focuses on proper citation conventions, core concepts of citation ethics, and strategies for avoiding plagiarism, inappropriate paraphrasing, and patchwriting. It will introduce common citation styles, including APA, MLA, Chicago, and IEEE, and explain their fundamental principles, such as in-text citations and reference list formatting. Through practical examples, participants will learn to apply these conventions correctly and gain a deeper understanding of academic integrity, including respect for intellectual property and the distinctions among direct quotation, indirect quotation, paraphrasing, and summarizing. In addition, the lecture will address the growing use of generative AI tools in academic English writing by examining their potential benefits in idea generation, language refinement, and structural organization, while also discussing ethical concerns such as content reliability, source traceability, and academic accountability. Emphasizing that AI should serve as an assistive tool rather than a substitute author, the lecture will offer recommendations for developing effective writing habits, strengthening critical thinking skills, and balancing efficiency with integrity in the digital age, thereby helping learners achieve both high-quality academic communication and ethical writing practices.
