The Future of Mass Literacy for the Multilingual Generation
Languages are not discrete or monolithic as they were once thought. Instead, language users constantly negotiate and transform languages as they use them in various situations for various audiences. In this presentation, the speaker will consider how literacy, which Is often considered to be the conservative force at odds with multilinguality, may actually be contributing to the negotiation of linguistic boundaries, especially outside of educational contexts. He will then consider how literacy education needs to change in order to reflect the linguistic reality of the multilingual generation of students.
